cannot connect network adaptor for XP guest

Hi,

I have the following setup:

host: ubuntu 11.04 64bit (natty)

VMWare Server 2.0.2

during installation i only created vmnet0 (for bridging).

I can start my XP guest system but cannot connect the network adaptor from the remote console . the error message is "

Incompatible device backing specified for device ‘0’.

i had the VMWare player installed prior to VMServer and the i could start the guest (including adpator) without any problems. I don't want to use NAT or host only configurations and just havet the guest as a regular machine on my network. So i didn't create vmnet1 or vmnet8. These were created automatically with vmware player. Is that the problem ?
