Bootmgr is missing on Windows 2008 server

Hi All,

I am receiving this message on one of my vmware servers, and I am desperate to access this drive again as there are database files I need to access that I don't have a copy of anywhere else.

I have tried running windows recovery, and then loading the scci drivers but no hard drive is detected.

Is there any other way to recover this server ?

thanks in advance

i cannot connect client to domain

Hi I am new to oracle. I have just started studying for my AD exam so decided to follow train signal and set up a network. I have 2 DC set up both speaking to one another and updating through active directory. I have now set up Vista client and it will not join the domain I get the following message

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator.  If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller for domain globomantics.com:

The error was: "This operation returned because the timeout period expired."
(error code 0x000005B4 ERROR_TIMEOUT)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.globomantics.com

The DNS servers used by this computer for name resolution are not responding. This computer is configured to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses:

192.168.5.3
192.168.5.2

Verify that this computer is connected to the network, that these are the correct DNS server IP addresses, and that at least one of the DNS servers is running.

For more information on how to correct this problem, click Help.

I have been looking now for about 5 days and have tried every single answer solution I have found on the net but I get the same error, I have even tried a windows 7 client and have had the same result.

the 2 DC I have are set up as follows
NY-DC1
IP 192.168.5.2
default gateway 192.168.5.1
preferred DNS 192.168.5.2
alt DNS 192.168.5.3

NY-DC2
IP 192.168.5.3
default gateway 192.168.5.1
preferred DNS 192.168.5.2
alt DNS 192.168.5.3

client Wins Vista
preferred DNS 192.168.5.2
alt DNS 192.168.5.3
I am also getting a message now to update my Ethernet but have no idea how to get onto the internet from the VM. I have dropped the driver into the VBOX folder but it will not work. I have also installed Guest additions which I thought was the updated drivers.

this is becoming a pain can somebody help

After upgrading to firefox 3.6 I can't open up my virtual machine through the browser.

I downgraded to 3.5 and it worked.

This is the message I get:

Cannot access virtual machine console. The request timed out

The attempt to acquire a valid session ticket for * took longer than expected. If this problem persists, contact your system administrator.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Guest network connectivity lost during terminal services logon to host

$

Hi

I have several dell servers running VMware server 2.0.2 on Windows server 2008 R2

On each of these servers I have three or four guests, some guests are running windows server 2003 and others running windows server 2008.

We remote administer the Dell physical host servers using terminal services.

Frequently when we log into the host servers we get the following issue

1 – The terminal server session will wait for up to 60 seconds with the message “Please wait for the user profile service”

2 – While the terminal server session to the host has the message, all network connectivity to the guest machines on the host is lost.

3 – When the terminal server session finally logs on to the hosts, network connectivity to the guests resumes.

There are no events or errors in the logs to indicate where the problem may lay.

We have many physical servers that reside in the same domain, both server 2003 and server 2008, but none of them ever experience any issues with terminal services. Only VMware host servers behave this way, and all of them behave the same.

Any suggestions please?

kernel 3.2 early excption 0d on vmware server and workstation

Hi all

I'm running debian lenny on vmware server 2 and all is working fine with my built kernel 2.6.35-14. I have built a new kernel 3.2.31 with quite the same options and it crashes on boot with an early exception 0d :

BIOS data check successful

Decompression Linux... Parsing ELF... done

Booting the kernel

PANIC: early exception 0d rip 10:ffffffff819b2547 error 0 cd2 0

The same behavior is occuring on vmware workstation but NOT on vmware ESXi...also, note that all is working fine on virtualbox and different physical servers.

after googling a lot, I have tried to pass the following options to kernel, but no change :

nosmep acpi=off

if it helps, I've been able to get different addresses of the exception (the 819b2547 is sometime different), but I don't remeber which parameters changed that.

Does anybody have an idea ?

thanks a lot

best regards

Julien

Random BSOD on Virtual Server

$

I've recently joined a company and therefore inherited a number of Virtual machines but one in particular is causing me some concern as it randomly blue screens. The kernel memory dump exceeds 400Mb (the maximum that I can make the paging file with the partition space I have available) so I have had to set minidumps instead to get a non truncated report. I have included one mini dump below, and I have also attached the previous minidump, but all of my others are practically identical to these two.

The probable cause in each dump is "memory_corruption". In a physical World I would replace the physical memory and expect that to resolve matters but in a virtual World, where the other virtual servers running on this box are stable, I'm not so sure that memory is the answer.

I was wondering if someone more technically competent than I at diagnosing these dumps, could possible advise me of what the likely cause is and give me something to go on.

This apparently was a physical box before being virtualised if that helps. The BSOD can occur at any time of day or night. Sometimes it goes down twice in a week, sometimes twice in a month. I haven't as yet come up with any pattern or trend that would stimulate the box into a crash.

Guest VM console freeze after upgrading VM OS from RHEL 6.1 to RHEL 6.4

Hi ,

I am facing an issue where we have an application running on Guest VM ( RHEL 6.1 ). We needed upgrade the OS from RHEL6.1 to RHEL 6.4.

So, we did the upgrade of the VM by attaching RHEL6.4 ISO as CD-ROM device and running the standard OS upgrade. After the OS upgrade is done.

When VM boots up Guest console freezes  just before the login screen as show in the below screenshot:

vmconsole_issue.jpg

Here, I can login to guest via ssh/telnet but, from console I can't login or do any operation. I tried pressing CTR+ALT+DEL VM get's rebooted but again the console just freeze at this step.

I also tried the suspend and then resume option (found workaround  on some forums)

Here, We are using VSphere client 5.1.0

I wanted to know first if it's known issue what's defect id for it. Also , If there is any workaround (patch).

Thanks,

AmitW

VIA Nehemiah CPU, linux 2.6.26.5 and vmware Server 2.0

Hi!

I am using vmware since about one year on my quite slow machine - worked great for small systems.

Via Nehemiah 1GHz, 1GB RAM, Debian Etch with selfcompiled kernel 2.6.26.5.

vmware server 1.0.4 run great on 2.6.24.X (I think), later the moduls didn't compile altough actual vmware-any-any-patches.

today I upgrade to vmware server 2.0 and loved it, because it compiled without problems (except vsock, but I think I dont need it) and without any patches. great.

but, my machines are not working. I have no idea why this happens - here is a logfile, perhaps anybody is able to help me.

The machine tries to start, modules are loaded correctly without errors, no special logs in dmesg is reported ...

As I have (as small homeuser) no support I am not venturing sending the file anywhere which was created with vm-support.

Thanks.

I did not have problem installing Anti-Virus. There is no restriction set from GPO Admin Template for Windows Components\Windows Installer.

Any suggestion will be much appreciated,

Cannot connect to any USB device on my virtual machines

Hallo,

need HELP.

i had 3 virtual machines (1xW2k3 DC and 2xW2k3 as an virtual Cluster) with Virtual Server 1.05 on my Laptop (XP SP2) created.

USB functions great.

Then our IT installs Vista SP1 on my Laptop. OK....no problem i thought...what a great optimism.

On the new installed Laptop i install the new Vmware Server 1.07 and import the old with Virtual Server 1.05 created virtual machines.

But after connecting an USB-Drive i wasn´t able to connect the device in the virtual machine...it was greyed out.

After severel trys to reanimate it i decide to install VMware Server 2.0. But the same Problem. In the Remote Console i can see what type of USB-Drive is connected like "Sandisk USB-Massstorage", but the connect Button is greyed out.

The problem i see is, that on the hostsystem the "VMmware USB-Device"-Driver is not installed and the guest-Systems think that he is installed.

All attempts were in vain to install this driver manually on the Laptop (host-system).

Can anyone help me?

Thanks Juergen

What is the proper syntax for runProgramInGuest?

Hi,

if I run:  vmrun -T server -h https://intel-ht-005/sdk -u root -p passwd listRegisteredVM, I get this result:

Total registered VMs: 4

test/Clone of SLES10sp1-64bit.vmx

1/Clone of SLES10sp1-64bit.vmx

2/Clone of SLES10sp1-64bit.vmx

3/Clone of SLES10sp1-64bit.vmx

For God's sakes, what's with this editor Standard in the above output is enclosed in brackets.

Then I  run this command: vmrun -T server -h https://intel-ht-005/sdk -u root -p passwd -gu root -gp passwd runProgramInGuest "[standard] test/Clone of SLES10sp1-64bit.vmx" ifconfig

I get: Error: A file was not found

Not sure if my syntax is wrong or what this error is trying to tell me, no matter what command I try (ifconfig, ls, echo) whatever, I get this error.

Thanks in advance

Disk performance issues

Hi there

My system looks like this:

Host:  Sun X4150 (2x Intel Xeon x5460 quad-core processors, 32GB RAM, 4 disks in RAID5 configuration), running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise (fully patched), with latest build of VMWare Server 2.0

VM's:  three running Solaris 10

          five running Server 2003.

At random intervals (usually when one of the VM's is doing something major like rebooting, deploying a large web application, etc but sometimes for no obvious reason) the host machine grinds almost to a halt, dragging the VM's with it.  At these times, CPU and Memory useage are running fairly low, but Disk IO is extremely high - queue of between 200 and 300 operations (compared to a normal queue length of under 6).

I've followed all common sense ideas to try reduce the load on the disk, such as uninstalling antivirus tools, avoiding disk-intensive (or for that matter, ANY) operations on the host, confirming that write-caching is enabled, and so on but there has been no noticeable change.

Any other suggestions for ideas which I may have missed?

USB Printer will not install on Windows 2000 Pro

Just upgraded VMware Server to version 2.  I have an HP LaserJet 3015 AIO connected to my Ubuntu 8.04 machine via USB.  Previous version I was able to get the printer hooked up and running on my W2K Pro VM.  But now I having some difficulty getting the printer installed.  When I look in the device manager in the System Control Panel, I see a exclamation point on it.  Looking the properties is says that the drivers for this device are not installed.  I go and try to install the device drivers and I get an error.  It says, "An error occurred in the installation of the device.  The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this instance."  I ran through the driver installation software from HP to install the printer.  It says that it installed the printer driver.  When I try to "Add a Printer" and select find a plug and play printer, it cannot find the printer.  Is there anything special that I need to do to get my LaserJet hooked up to the Guest Host?

How to access a newly created Virtual Machine?

I am new to Vmware... and not sure what to do...

I downloaded the Linux version of VMware Server 2.0.  I installed it on a Fedora 5 host as see in the report below.

I am able to access the VMware Infrastructure WebAccess on port 8222 ( in my case http://0.0.0.0:8222 ) and view the panels.  I see the various networks that I configured,  Bridged=vmnet0 ;; HostOnly=vmnet1 ;; NAT=vmnet8 on the summary page.   I then created a Virtual Machine 1 using RedHat as a guest OS, I can power it on or off, and select it from the Virtual Machines panel ( next to summmary)

Question:  How do I access this Virtual Machine?  How do I install s/w etc....

Thanks for your response,

Jonathan.

Since an unexpected reboot of the Linux machine (Ubuntu 8.10), the windows XP Professional that was installed in the vmware server 2 machine stopped working. Now everytimei turn it on, a blue screen appears, with the message "BAD_POOL_CALLER", and it keeps restarting itself. I am unable to start in safe mode, because the same blue screen appears...

Does anybody know the cause, or have any solution to repair the windows machine? I attached a snapshot of the error.

Thank you very much

Windows could not start the VMware Host Agent on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code -1.

I installed VMware-server-2.0.0-116503 on Dell Inspiron 518 Quad Core Vista Home Premium back in October. It worked and I installed XP VM which also worked. I got distracted and just got back to it today and I can't get the Host Service to start. I uninstalled and reinstalled twice. Searched forums - can't find anything pertinent. Discovered a new build VMware-server-2.0.0-122956 so downloaded it, uninstalled rebooted, installed, rebooted and still no start.

Are there any wise souls out there?

How to use vmserver 2 across the firewall ? 2 or more bugs ?

$

In vmserver 1 docs, there was clear instructions how to use it, but not in vmserver 2. I tried to guess it, and result is close, but no cigar:

My home machine has vmserver2 installed  (Fedora 10, x64) and I need to access my work, using the ssh tunnel through the firewall. Defaulr vmserver ports are already in use, so I selected arbitrary 11111 and forwarded to the server (also Linux, RHEL4, x64). The GUI works ok, but obviously clicking on the console opens it with 8333 port (bug number 1), which is local server. So I asked it to create desktop link:

/x/u/tad/.mozilla/firefox/m4lpb8dy.default/extensions/VMwareVMRC@vmware.com/plugins/vmware-vmrc -h "localhost:8333" -M "16"

and edited it changing 8333 to 11111

Double click and I have the login window, it accepts proper credentials and displays proper name of VM, but then it pops the message about 'incorrect MKS login' (or something similar) and then it dies. Clicking again has different effect - it gets stuck in connecting progress bar. So there is a bug number 2.

I tried to figure out if there is additional port to forward (maybe 902 ?) but I found no way to supply new port id to vmrc - obviously I have to use different local port, because 902 on a localhost is taken.

BTW - The same situation may happen without the tunnel, when I try to open console on remote server, using host which also has server installed - all applications will be confused which one is local and which is remote.
