Hello All,
Something recently came up which raised the question about moving a VM between hosts without the help of vCenter. I am currently running vSphere managing 3 blades in a c3000. I have an iSCSI shared storage blade which all the blades connect to. All of my VM's are in the same datastore on the shared storage. I am also running vCenter Server as a VM on one of the blades. Recently the blade that hosts the vCenter Server VM died. What I was hoping to do is use vSphere Client to connect directly to one of the other blades and move the vCenter server VM over to one of the good blades but I can't find a way of doing that. Using the datastore browser and see all of the VM's on the datastore no problem but I see no way of migrating the VM without vCenter server. In the end the blade only had a memory issue which I corrected and was able to bring the blade back up but I'm thinking now of the future. I am only running Essentials so I don't have access to vMotion or Storage vMotion. I know that running vCenter Server is supported by Vmware but I'm wondering if it's best practices.
Any thoughts?
