Hello,

I can't install w2k8 on VMware Server 2.0.2, because I still received error :

"The installation was canceled

Any changes that were made to your computer during installation process will not be saved"

and next window:

"Windows could not create a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while applying the unattend answer file's  setting. Error code: 0x80004005"

I try other version of w2k8 in this cd, but is the same issue.

Could you help me

Windows 2003 guest OS stops responding randomly! URGENT

Hi folks,

I have problem that's killing me.

Configurations:

Vmware server 2.02

Host OS:  Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 SP2 32bit.

Guest OS: two Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 32bit. (the second VM is just a copy of the first one).

Hardware Configurations:

Host Machine:  Interl Core2 Quad - Q9650 - 3.0 GHz. RAM: 6.0 GB - DDR3

Guest Machine: 2 Virtual CPU. 2 GB RAM.

The Problem:

Both VMs (doesn't matter if they are both up, or only one) stops responding randomly, maybe right after bootup, or after a while. The response becomes very very slow,  mouse clicks take minutes to work. I access this VMs using remote desktop,

Notes:

1. I tried vm console but the problem still there, even though it seems to be less frequent.

2. I tried to ping the VM while it's having this problem, and ping time was >1000 ms while it should be <1ms! I attached the ping result in image file.

3. After the VM hangs it may work normaly again after a while, and it may need restart to solve this problem.

4. I attached the VM log files.

I really need help, as I'm already behind the schedule of setting up the VMs.

Do we have a VMWare Server 2.0.x that works in Ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit)?

$

My VMWare Server 2.0.x has broken on Ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit) and I can't get it to install and configure properly. I keep hitting the following error when trying to re-compile the kernel:

The basic error is:

/tmp/vmware-config2/vmmon-only/./include/compat_wait.h:78: error:

conflicting types for ‘poll_initwait’

With a lot of effort and this post <[http://radu.cotescu.com/2009/10/30/how-to-install-vmware-server-2-0-x-on-ubuntu-9-10-karmic-koala/]>

I managed to get vmware server 2.0.2 finally compiled. But vmware still doesn't work. By that I mean I cannot get the web

page to show me a login. If I simply type "vmware" I get a new tab in

Firefox that says "Loading..." but never finishes loading. If I refresh

that page I get "Connection was reset while page was loading". If I do

sudo /etc/init.d/vmware-mgmt start then vmware I get the blank tab with a

Loading... If I immediately refresh - nothing. If I wait a second or

two more and refresh "Conection was reset while page was loading"

thereafter until I do sudo /etc/init.d/vmware-mgmt start. This seems to be an issue with Firefox 3.6.2 (and there's apparently no way to use VMWare Server without using a browser).

I have a .vmdk created of my laptop at work but I can't get VMWare

Server to display in FF (tried the SSL2 thing - didn't work) so I

thought to myself perhaps I could install VMPlayer to just play the

.vmdk. Downloaded that and installed it - it decided to wipe out my

VMWServer installation and apparently it doesn't like .vmdk files so I

uninstall it only to find VMWare Server hosed on my system. Tried

reinstalling VMWare Server 2.0.2 and it constantly fails to compile and

install correctly (even with the fix above) so now I'm hosed. Thanks VMWare!

So I  say perhaps I'll have to go to this ESXi thing after all and I go

to download it. A vast array of options present themselves but none of

it seems to be  a simple install or tar image rather ISO images to burn

to CDs. Come to find out that apparently this ESXi thing requires you

dedicate a machine to boot into a VMWare server of sorts. Sorry I don't

have a machine to spare. Thanks again VMWare!

So the suggestion to "use ESXi - it's free" is not an option, "Use

Internet Explorer" is also not an option as I don't run Windows and IE

doesn't run on Linux. Using VI Client is also not an option because my

installation is now hosed thanks to VMWare.

So back to my original question:  Do we have a VMWare Server 2.0.x that works in Ubuntu 9.10 (64 bit)?

Windows 7 Guest Duplicate 169.254 address - XP guest works OK

$

I've been using VMware Server 2 for a while and have used various OS's as guest and host, however this is the first time that I am using WIndows 7 Ultimate x64 as the Guest. When I boot the Guest OS, it fails to connect to a network and displays an error stating there are duplicate IP addresses on the network. The address it is referring to is a 169.254.0.0 address. Every now and again, it will get a proper address, but it immediately gets the duplicate address message and reverts to a 169.254.0.0 address.

My Configuration is as follows:

Host: Win7 Home Premium x64 (dual core), 8GB RAM

Guest: Win7 Ultimate x64 (dual core) - (Told VMWare it was Vista x64), 1GB RAM, e1000 network adapter, vmware tools installed.

I have another guest OS (Windows XP Pro x86 (one core), 1 GB RAM, AMD PCNet adapter, vmware tools) that communicates fine over the network. Is this e1000 network adapter the issue? If so, how can I tell VMware to use a different one?

Boot physical partition within Server?

Hello. I'm running Windows 7 but I need to be able to run the XP partition (creating a virtual disk is not an option).

I was checking Wikipedia and it stated that VMWare Server was the only free software that can do this, but upon installation I could not find that option.

Checking online states that there is supposed to be an option to "use physical disk" when selecting a virtual drive, but I cannot find this anywhere.

And the search seems to be always be for linux hosts. So, is it even possible? and if so how? and if not why?

VMware Server awfully slow and connection drops

I installed the VMware Server 2.0.2 (Build 203138), including Web  Access 2.0.0 (Build 128374) to my Ubuntu Linux server (2.6.32-24-server  #39-Ubuntu SMPx86_64). The server host has no console GUI, it's just  acting as server. The server seems to be running fine. I can log in from  a different machine (WinXP using Internet Explorer) and see the virtual  machines overview.

However,  whatever I click, it takes ages to load (client and server are  connected via GigE, just two hubs, no weird networs etc). I often see  error messages in my logfile /var/log/vmware/hostd.log. For example,  when I log in, I read:

I am really clueless.  I am using VMware for some time now, a Windows XP machine hosts a  virtual Linux. This was an attempt to do it the other way, but at the  current state, this is not usable. The problem doesn't seem to be  relared to any particular activity as it happens even when I do nothing  after login.

Does anybody have any idea where to search for the problem?

Nested ESXi 5.0 guest slow to boot

Hi

I have VMWare Server 2.0.0.2712 running on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Created two ESXi 5.0.0 guest servers to trial vCenter Server 5 etc.

However, both guests are very slow to boot (over 20 mins), and hang on vmkibft and vmfs3 loaded successfully and thereafter.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Hi,

Currently I am using VMWare Server 2.02.

This product has reached the end of the line and I am considering migrating to VMWare Player.

Is VMWare player free ???

What am I loosing or gaining by migrating ?

Appreciate your comments.

Cheers

dmp files being created after uninstall

$

Hello,

I am not sure I am posting in the correct section but here goes.

We have a few servers that started running out of space on the C drive. After investigating we found that VMWare was still sending .dmp files every 5 minutes to the Default Users folder even though they had been converted to Hyper V long ago.

The servers are Windows Server2003, 64bit, SP2.

The only thing VMWare related item that I can still find on any of these servers is VMWare Tools. That service is disabled and the Tools software fails if I try to uninstall it.

I would like to remove/disable whatever is causing the dmp files to be created.

I am "assuming" it has something to do with the Tools but have not been able to figure much out by just Google searches.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Host-Only networking not working

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to get host-only networking working for two days now.

This is my setup:

Host: Debian 6.0.5, 64bit; VMware Server 2.0.2 build-203138; located in a data center

Guest: CentOS 6.2, 64bit

Host-only subnet is 172.16.1.* (VMNet 1). For testing purposes, I added NAT which is 172.16.8.* (VMNet8).

From my guest, I can ping 172.16.8.2. Pinging 172.168.1.1 does not work.

From my host, I cannot ping any of the guest IPs: 172.16.8.128 (which is assigned via VMWare-DHCP) results in 100% packet loss (but this is okay, since NAT only works in the opposite direction). Pinging 172.16.1.128 (again, assigned via VMWare-DHCP) also results in 100% packet loss.

Here is some (hopefully useful) information:

Host:

# uname -a
Linux Debian-60-squeeze-64-LAMP 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Sun May 6 04:00:17 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux

# /etc/init.d/vmware status
At least one instance of VMware Server is still running.

Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 is running
Host network detection is not running
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet1 is running
DHCP server on /dev/vmnet1 is running
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet8 is running
DHCP server on /dev/vmnet8 is running
NAT networking on /dev/vmnet8 is running
Module vmmon loaded
Module vmnet loaded

I'm wondering about that "Host network detection is not running" message, but googling around I didn't find any fix for that.

Assign valid IP addresses to virtual machines

Hello every one,

First of all I wanted to mention that I'm totally new to this virtualization thing and forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I'm really confused about that. So I have a dedicated server with 5 valid IP addresses that clearly one of them is used for the host (the mentioned dedicated server), now I have 2 virtual machines on this host and I need to assign each machine a valid IP address, Can you please tell me how can I do that?

Thanks in advance

VMware Server Web Access Service Not Starting

Hello -- I am having an issue where the Tomcat Apache Web Service won't start on my server. I am running on a Windows Small Business Server 2011. It has Apache Tomcat 6 installed. By looking at the logging for the Apache I received the below output:

[2013-09-20 18:08:22] [1334 prunsrv.c] [debug] Procrun log initialized

[2013-09-20 18:08:22] [info] Run service finished.

I noticed that the Java options for the service show in the attached screenshot:

ScreenHunter_50 Sep. 20 18.28.jpg

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have been trying various options with the JVM, Classpath, and Java Options field.

Alternately, would you know of another way to manage virtual machines other than the web interface?

Thanks,

How to Migrate VM from ESXi to Server 2.0?

$

We are facing temporary resource constraints and wish to move VMs from our cloud ESXi environment to a vmware server 2.0 environment.  We have a 500Mbps link between the two.

What are the options for doing so and the pros/cons?  Each server has a total disk size of < 100GB and they are simple Web/DB servers.

Thanks

Can ESX-I 5.5 be installed on Dell Precision R5500 Workstation?

We have a

Dell Precision R5500 Workstation.

Dual Intel Xeon X5690, 3.46 GHz, 12M Cache, 6.40 GT/s Intel QPI, Dell
Precision R5500.

24GB DDR3 ECC RDIMM Memory,1333MHz,6X4GB,Dell Precision TX500.

Windows 7 Professional,No Media, 64-bit,Fixed Precision.

16TB (14x 1.2TB 10K RPM SAS 6Gbps 2.5in Hot-plug Hard Drive)

I just want to know if the ESX-I 5.5 can be installed successfully on this Rack server? There are references to the T5500, but if anyone knows, is the only difference between the T5500 and R5500, the tower and rack configuration?

Thanks, I appreciate any inputs
