Hello,

I can't install w2k8 on VMware Server 2.0.2, because I still received error :

"The installation was canceled

Any changes that were made to your computer during installation process will not be saved"

and next window:

"Windows could not create a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while applying the unattend answer file's  setting. Error code: 0x80004005"

I try other version of w2k8 in this cd, but is the same issue.

Could you help me

Writes in Guest OS are spiking CPU

Hey all, I have exhaustively researched this problem for a few weeks now. I am running out of ideas!

The server is a brand new quad core Xeon with 6 gb of ram running Windows 2003 Standard R2 64 bit as the host OS. It has an Intel Raid 1 for the operating system and an Adaptec Raid 1 for the vmware guest (both SATA). Vmware server 2.0.2

The disk controller cache is set to write-through for safety.

The guest is 32-bit Windows 2003 R2 with VMware Hardware version 7 and VMware tools installed. I've tried IDE and SCSI drive configurations.

The CPU's will spike to 100% on the guest os whenever I copy files. Reads are fine when copying over the network. It stays at 4-5% or less. Any time I do writes (even formatting the disk

inside the guest OS) it spikes until the writes are completed.

Old VMs which I have imported do not have this issue, but they are 2000 and XP.

Hi,

I've managed to get VMWare 2.0 installed, and can get to the server home page through http:/:822/ui#, (cannot get "https" will not work) but when I click on the console and try to connect I get this error

Unable to connect to the MKS: There is no VMware process running for config file C:\Virtual Machines\EDFEnergyVM\EDFEnergyVM.vmx

Either run "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Server\x64\vmware-vmx.exe C:\Virtual Machines\EDFEnergyVM\EDFEnergyVM.vmx" manually on the server,or register the config file.

What do I need to do here?

Thanks

Windows 2003 Standard 4 CPU 4 GB memory limitation

Windows 2003 Standard has a 4 cpu and 4 GB memory recognition limitation.  But when virtualizing a physical server that is running Windows 2003 Standard, would it be possible to allocate more than 4 processors and more than 4 GB memory and then do something, for example with a parameter to customize how the virtual machine is using processor count, memory, through the VM properties > General > Configuration Parameters > adding or editing existing params such as the cpuid.coresPerSocket ... ???  Simply setting the memory to 8 GBs on a Windows 2003 Standard virtual machine would simply be a waste of resources, yes?  Can anything be done from the virtual side to get over these 2003 Standard limits?

Host to VM network dodgy (bridge mode)

Problem: Connectivity between the host and the VM randomly drops out.

Observed: The problem only seems to occur when the host network cards are teamed and the host OS is Windows 2008 R2 (x64). This problem is happening on 14 of our Dell 2900's and 6 of our IBM 3650 M3's.

It does not occur when the host is running Windows 2003 R2 (x32) with teaming.

Here is a screenshot (http://imageshack.us/f/30/unledyit.png/) showing the virtual network editor settings as well as a ping from the host to the VM (you'll notice that 1 network card is disconnected and you may think that is the problem but it happens even when both network cards are plugged in).

btw I'm using VMWare Server 2.0

I see plenty of links talking about how to migrate VMWare VMs to ProxMox, but I haven't been able to find even one in the other direction!

Can anyone provide instructions for migrating a ProxMox VM to VMWare Server?

VMware server and installed memory on the x86 32bit system

Hi all

Situation looks as follows:

- I have destop Dell - Ultra Small Form Factor -  with 8GB RAM and 32bit Windows 7 installed

- on that desktop VMware serwer 2.0.2 is installed

- on that VMware serwer Windows 2008 R2 64bit is installed and configured with 1GB RAM.

My question is:

Is virtual machine able to use about or more than 4GB RAM from installed 8GB on the 32bit Windows 7 host system?

- or should i have 64bit host system to use about 4GB or 5GB on the virtual machine?

Thnaks in advance

Hi I am new to oracle. I have just started studying for my AD exam so decided to follow train signal and set up a network. I have 2 DC set up both speaking to one another and updating through active directory. I have now set up Vista client and it will not join the domain I get the following message

The selected file is not a valid virtual disk file

Hi!,

I'm having a problem with one of my virtual machines on VMWARE Server 2.

Suddenly, after a server crash, the machine didn't boot up correctly. Apparently something went wrong with the hard disk. I tried to remove and add again the hard disk, however, when I tried to add it it says:

"The selected file is not a valid virtual disk file. Please choose a different name"

Attached there are vmx, vmxf and vmdk files.

Any hint about this?

Workstation 9 and vmrun stop question

$

We're running a Windows Server 2012 and VMware Workstation 9.0.2 with 2 shared and 1 unshared VMs.

The shared VMs are on the C: and the other VM is on the D:

When I run "vmrun list" I get "Total running VMs: 1" which points to the unshared VM on D:

I take it vmrun does not see/recognize the shared VMs.

I'm trying to use "vmrun -T ws-shared stop" to shutdown one of the shared VMs but I'm not having any luck.

I've tried a number of different combinations but nothing has worked.  This is the command that I'm trying to work with:

vmrun -T ws-shared -h https://<hostname>:8333/sdk -u username -p password stop "[standard]Server/Server 2008.vmx"

The command fails with "Error: Failed to connect to host or proxy"

Can someone please guide me in the right direction as to the correct format of the command, and if I need to make any additional changes before this works.

Do I need to do anything in regards to the port number/sdk for example?

Thanks

Can anyone please let me know the solution for it.

Vmware server 2 - Problem with snapshots

$

Hi,

I have a problem regarding snapshots in a virtual machine.

My server has the bellow  identity:

VMware Infrastructure Web AccessVersion 2.0.0Build 128374

VMware ServerVersion 2.0.1Build 156745

The virtual machine has two disks, one 140GB and one 65GB. My problem resides to the first one that included OS files too.

When I opened the folder of that disk, I found all these:

VMsnapshot.png

From a little search I did I found that there are some snapshots in that VM but here:

FromWithinVMserver.png

looks like there is no snapshot...

I tried stopping the machine and by using vmware-vdiskmanager.exe tool to merge all disk files to one (since no snapshots seems to exist) but the result when I used the new file, was a disk more that a year old.

Is there any way to merge all the old snapshots in order to create one disk file in the end?

HELP - moved vmachines, now "windows loading files" then the vm reboot by itself

$

I have 3 vms, host is Windows7 bit , guests are all win2008 R2 64bit (yes it's a stupid setup I know.. ).

I created another machine, with host 2008 R2 64 bit.

I copied the VMs' files to the new machine, start them, declare them as 'copied', started them.

then I log in the console and what I see is that Windows start loading files, then the virtual machine reboot by itself and it start again with the windows loading file and continue like that forever    .

No error messages anywhere. When I try to stop the windows boot, and it would let me choose if start windows or diagnose memory, the vm reboot still, even if I didnt touch anything!

I reinstalled the VMware server, copied the vms again, but still the same. The disks have enough space, plenty of ram, so the machine shouldnt be an issue.

Please help!  :_|

Thanks,

Error while powering on: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

After installation of Windows 2008, my player operates fine. When I close the program and attempt to play it again, I get, "Error while powering on: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."  As far as I can tell, there are no other processes using the program.  I have uninstalled and re-installed the server but the problem continues. Any suggestions?

dmp files being created after uninstall

$

Hello,

I am not sure I am posting in the correct section but here goes.

We have a few servers that started running out of space on the C drive. After investigating we found that VMWare was still sending .dmp files every 5 minutes to the Default Users folder even though they had been converted to Hyper V long ago.

The servers are Windows Server2003, 64bit, SP2.

The only thing VMWare related item that I can still find on any of these servers is VMWare Tools. That service is disabled and the Tools software fails if I try to uninstall it.

I would like to remove/disable whatever is causing the dmp files to be created.

I am "assuming" it has something to do with the Tools but have not been able to figure much out by just Google searches.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

The drive cannot find the sector requested.

I have a Blackberry enterprise server, running in Windows 2003 SP2, running on VMWare Server2. When doing a snapshot backup using AppAssure Replay4 application I am getting the following error in the Windows event viewer:

Thread: 5604

Logger: tevolib.tpalt

Context: PG=VolsWithInterval720Minutes Volume=\\?\Volume{54531876-fe55-11db-8f46-00188b19c44c}\ DriveLetter=G:

Source Location: TransmitPacketsAlternative.cpp:584

Details:

Transmission of snapshot data failed. Check the AppAssure event log on the Replay Core for more details. - The drive cannot find the sector requested.

The last statement says the drive cannot find the sector requested. It is a virtual machine, it has no physical drives. What does this error mean?

VMWare Server 2.0 Install from .ISO

Help, Anyone

I'm using VMWare Server 2.0.  I went through the process of creating a guest OS and I'm going through the wizard.

I'm at the CD/DVD drive section and I'm attempting to select an .ISO image to install from.  However, when I type in

location of the file I get a msg saying it doesn't exist even though it does.  And when I browse there is still no

option to locate the physical .iso on my disk.

Has anyone else had this issue or know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks
