This is probably a very basic issue (I hope).
I installed VMWare Server (2.0) on a Debian Etch box. installation went well. Just to test it out, I downloaded the etch ISOs to create a VM. Installation of the VM went fine; I can provision new VMs quite quickly/easily, which is cool.
On my test VM, I set the network adapter to Bridged mode, and assign it the IP address in the Debian installer in the VM.
However, in the tasks tab (web interface) after I start the VM, I just get this message:
*Message
from <host.name>: The network bridge on device vmnet0 is not
running. The virtual machine will not be able to communicate with the
host or with other machines on your network.
Virtual device Ethernet0 will start disconnected.*
I notice that there are processes running on the host for vmnet-netifup for vmnet1 and vmnet8, but nothing for vmnet0. I've tried a bunch of things, including manually starting a vmnet-netifup for vmnet0, assigning the IP address to vmnet0 on the host and bringing that interface up. But nothing seems to work and I'm in an enormous trial-by-error loop that isn't producing results! Hoping there is a quick fix due to something I completely overlooked??
Thanks in advance.
p.s. if there is already a post on this that I've overlooked, please feel free to refer.
