Hi all,
I am running VM Server 2 on a Windows 7 host and have an XP Pro guest OS.
For about 4 months now, the guest has been randomly freezing and will not come back. I have tried a number of ways to get it going without rebooting hte host, but none of them work...
This includes:
Shutting down guest from within the VM Admin page
Resetting guest from within the admin page
Resetting it from the top of the VM Remote Console
(the above 3 just get to 95% and don't go any further)
Trying to use the vmrun as a command line tool
Killing the vmware-vmx process (this just gives me an MKS error when I try and restart the Remote Console, saying something about the config file)
Restarting all of the VMWare services in the Windows Services.
I have tried everything I can think of and tried looking on the internet to see if anyone has experienced similar.
The only option that I have to get it going is to completely shut down my host OS and restart. This is not really an acceptable solution, for example, today, I have a VERY LONG copy process occuring (many gigs to a server on the internet). It has been going for over 24 hours and was only about 15% through. I tried everything again to get my guest going, in the end, I had to stop the process so that I could reboot my host.
What can I do to get my guest running again without having to resort to shutting down the host?
Why is my guest freezing? I get no error or anything. The guest is not overloaded (sometimes, it just freezes when there is hardly anything running).
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
