I have a Dell 2950 server with Fedora 9 (64-bit) installed. I installed VMWare Server 2 with no problems and created our first guest (Red Hat Enterprise) in a VM. A CD was not involved in this process as we simply copied the RH files from the datastore of our old machine.
I am now trying to install Windows XP from a CD but every time I try this, the virtual machine ignores the CD and tries to boot over a (presumably virtual) AMD network card.
I also created an iso from the CD and tried to boot that way but again, the guest machine just tried to boot over the network.
I have checked the BIOS to ensure that the CD ROM is first on the list and I'm at a complete loss as to what to do next. None of the suggestions I found in other posts seemed to help.
Would appreciate any insights.
Thanks,
David
