I have installed Vmware Server 2 (build 116503) on my pc which has the following specs:
Motherboard: ASUS P5E-VM HDMI
CPU: Intel Quad Q9300
Memory: 8GB
Host OS: Vista Ultimate 64Bit SP1
Host settings Reserved Memory is set to 7168 MB (Maximum shown 7371 MB), Fit all virtual machine memory into reserved host RAM
I reboot pc and System Information shows:
Installed Physical Memory 8.00GB
Total Pysical Memory 8.00GB
Available Physical Memory 4.31 GB (this value varies but always within 4GB. The only application installed is Vmware
Server 2, No guest running)
Vmware console shows memory usage is 3846 MB. No virtual machine running so I don't understand why that much memory is in use.
I can only run guests totalling 4GB RAM (sometimes up to 5GB, occassionally up to 6GB, memory triming disabled on all guests). Beyond that I get a "Not enough
physycal memory available" message suggesting I power off some virtual machines or decrease RAM of guest I'm trying to
start. Task manager shows Pyhsical Memory in use is 51%
Strangely, Vmware Workstation 6.5 on same pc and configured to reserve same amount of RAM allows me to run guests
totalling 7GB RAM (memory triming disabled on all guests). Always
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
