Problem shrinking a linux machine running on VMWare for Windows

Hello,

I have some problem identifying how to shrink a Linux VMWare machine (guest) that is running on VMWARE server environment on XP(host). Normally, when the VMWARE guest machine is an XP, I simply start the VMWARE Toolbox on it and shrink the disk.  But when I start the VMWARE Toolbox on my linux machine as root,  the  Shrink tab contain no "partitions" to shrink...

If I try to perform the steps directly from the Windows machine,  using the command "vmware-vdiskmanager -p mymachine.vmdk", it immediately returns with the error:

Failed to prepare the disk mounted at 'mon-qalinux2.vmdk' for shrinking.

After reviewing the documentation that come with the linux toolbox, it appears that the tool should be used to shrink on linux, but I it doesn`t show any partition in the list.

Anyone have an idea what I am not doing properly?

Thanks,

Pierre
