no internet in VM with SBS 2003 on SBS 2008 host

I installed a Virtual Machine with SBS 2003 R2 SP2 on a SBS 2008 Host server. Normally, two computers with SBS in a network will never work, however should the VM with SBS 2003 nevertheless work on a SBS 2008 host computer?

If yes, with what specific settings. So I do not want the guest to connect to the host (like when creating e computer network) but I do want the guest system to make use of the physical network card in order to have access to internet.

Specifically (VM):

- Under network connections: no connections are shown

- If I follow the wizard New Connection it reports in the end that the connection is already configured (although none shows??)

- If I try the wizard Connect to internet in the servermanagement console it reports 'at least one networkadapter should be enabled'

- Under the VMWare Devices option Network Adapter it shows 'Connected to bridged network on server' (although greyed out)

- Under Hardware -> devicemanagement a networkadapter is shown 'AMD PCNET Family PCI Ethernet adapter' reporting error: device doesn't start.

- Under device management of the host PC this adapter is not in the list, but instead :

  - a Marvell Yuklon Gigabt adapter (that one is set to disabled)

  - a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family adapter

  - a VMWare virtual eethernet adapter for VMNet1

  - a VMWare virtual eethernet adapter for VMNet8

- In the VMWare Summary tab of teh VM it shows:

  - Connected

  - Connect at power on

  - Bridged

  - mac adress generated by the host

  - virtual device type: flexible

and under status:

  - DNS name: not available

  - IP adresses: not available
