I have server2 running on a debian linux machine. I'm trying to add a sound adapter to a WinXP Pro virtual machine. But nothing seems to happen when I click on "sound adapter" in the add hardware wizard. I am blind so I cannot be 100% sure nothing is happening. But I've been able to add other kinds of hardware to this virtual machine. I added a serial port by clicking on serial adapter and then next. But if I click on sound adapter and then next, it tries to add a disk as if I never clicked on sound adapter or as if the sound adapter link is inactive.
I thought maybe my host system had an unsupported sound card. The first sound card is on the mother board. So I added a second sound card, a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live. At the end of this message, I'll tack on what lspci says both cards are.
Do I have to do something in vmware to get it to know I have added hardware to the host system? Maybe vmware server2 only sees the first sound adapterin the host system?
lspci says:
