I get the below errors when powering on both my VM’s.
"The default sound device cannot be opened: A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system. Virtual device
sound will start disconnected."
I have Vista 64bit as my host running VM Server 2.0
I have a Fedora 11 guest that gives no audio at all, and an XP guest that does give limited sound (I get the welcome
sound but no media files play).{size]

I can only add the audio back to Fedora when the sound is configured as a single output. Confused? I am! I use Pulse audio in Fedora to set input/output configs, if input and output are both specified I get the same error when trying to add the audio back to the guest.
In summary, both VM’s drop the audio device when powered on. I can add the audio back to either VM when powered up. But Fedora will only accept the audio as a single output device in Pulseaudio.
Could this have something to do with my problem, ie VMware is converting my fairly new Realtek to an older SB ES1371 and then not outputting the sound?I have spent many hours trying to trouble shoot Fedora 11’s sound problems. I can get an output signal though no sound is actually played.
The sound card is a 5.1 channel HD Audio by Realtek ALC662. When the VP is powered on and booted into Fedora it shows as a ES1371 (Audio-pci97).
Can anyone help?
