I am running VMware workstation (7.1.4 build-385536) at home. So far the purchase has been worth it, even though I do not really use all the bells and whistles that it has.
I am examining if VMware server 2.0 is a useable virtualisation platform for a hosted server somewhere (no desktop, some linux version.. otherwise I might have considered Workstation). I am sure it is,but I do have a set of questions concerning this. I did a few searches on the web, but was not succesful in finding a trustworthy answer.
Some questions that I have:
- Are the virtual machines compatible?
- Do they need conversion or "other hardware" to be moved?
- Is there anything in Workstation that I can use with Server (tools, etc)
- In what way can I use Workstation to control/manage the Server virtual machines?
- Would it be possible to use Workstation to "see" the Server virtual machine's desktop (when present)?
Any help would be much appreciated.
