I'm running VMWare Server on my Windows 7 host machine with a virtualised Ubuntu Server guest OS.
My aim is to use the Ubuntu guest OS as a LAMP web server. In the interest of simplicity I would like to have the VM set up on a bridged network connection.
The problem I'm having is that I'm unable to ping the host OS from the guest. In trying to figure out what the problem was I noticed that my router is showing the MAC address of my guest and host OS as being the same. Is this what you'd normally expect with a bridged connection? If so it may cause me some problems as I'll need to set up a reserved IP address for the Ubuntu OS in my router's DHCP configuration (so that I can forward the appropriate ports to it).
I've had a good search around but haven't found any likely causes of or solutions to this problem. It may just be that I've misunderstood how bridged networking works and that what I'm attempting isn't possible.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
